ChatGPT Meets Advertising

OpenAI is taking the first step toward using its AI product, ChatGPT, as an advertising space. While this development holds a significant share in the marketing field, it can actually be considered a milestone for the financing of artificial intelligence tools.

Google, Facebook, Instagram, Yandex, and many others… Generations who have used all these platforms knew very well the impact created when they were first offered for free. However, these platforms offered for free actually served to collect a kind of anonymous data. Thus, a marketable product was created in the hands of the large companies owning these platforms. A massive amount of data where interests and demographic characteristics are determined, and even purchasing habits are known. Now, ChatGPT is moving to this stage after collecting sufficient data on user behaviors. Since AI tools were opened to end-user experience, they have required serious resources. This situation is not sustainable without advertising revenues.

Will ChatGPT Lose Its Sincerity?

AI tools like ChatGPT are viewed by users as a gray area offering a “personalized experience.” But can you maintain sincerity and reliability to the same extent when advertisements get involved? ChatGPT CEO Sam Altman states that they will proceed in a way that does not disturb users. This paradoxical situation seems likely to create a distinction among AI firms in the coming days. We might see a split between those who open their platforms to advertising and those who do not. However, once advertising revenues come into play, I don’t think other firms will be able to resist this wind for very long.

$200,000 Requirement for the Launch Period

ChatGPT aims to open its first test advertisements very soon. These ads will be launched as a trial in the United States. According to information confirmed by ChatGPT, advertisers wishing to participate in this launch must have secured a spending commitment of $200,000.

It is not known for certain when ChatGPT advertisements will begin in the United States. However, it has already aroused great interest. Therefore, we will all see together what path AI tools will follow to compete in the market in 2026. It would not be surprising at all if we start hearing about AI tools offering free membership models integrating into advertisements one by one.
